My education (in English and Comparative Literature), teaching experience and life experience gives me the benefit of relating to my students with empathy and a love of teaching. Many of my students call me “Dr. Brunda” and share with me important details of their lives such as winning a game or tournament, having a hard time in a class, getting an A, or telling me all about their pet.
Some students and parents also refer to me as a “coach” as they see me helping my students deal with the stresses of timed, standardized tests or deadlines. I assist and support my students to figure out how they can relax, keep perspective and give it their best. Seeing students learn and grow is very fulfilling to me. I approach students with passion, dedication and dynamism that can be contagious.
I feel honored that my students -- high school students, college students and graduate students -- feel comfortable to let me be a part of their successes and their worries. This one-on-one connection that develops with my students allows me to understand them as unique individuals, who I can then tutor in ways that work for them.
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire" -- William Butler Yeats
